Feldenkrais Method ® Intelligent Body workshop: Active Pelvis
Feldenkrais is one of the giants of movement teaching methods – it is highly effective in helping you know your body better and helping you shift chronic pain, stiffness and lack of flexibility. The exercises, devised by innovative Israeli movement scientist, Moshe Feldenkrais (1904-1984), known as Awareness through Movement ®, help you with being comfortable, balanced, elegant and more capable in your body, which in turn makes it easier to meet life’s challenges, old and new. The revelation is that change can be easy and actually pleasant!
Two days of Awareness through Movement sequences, carefully chosen out of the hundreds created by Moshe Feldenkrais to give a sense of freedom and ease. The structured movements are tranquillising, gentle and easy for anyone to do, and involve the whole body. The sequences are mostly done lying down or sitting, and are restorative, rather than taxing. They will be interspersed with some partner work, and frequent breaks, to make for a most enjoyable weekend.
The workshop will focus on the pelvis as the powerhouse and centre of movement in the body. It will encompass hip rehabilitation and pelvic mobility. The pelvic floor will be viewed in the context of the whole body, rather than Kegel exercises. Some attention will be given to tight hip flexors/psoas. Connections to the lower back and spine, and through to the legs will be explored. Balance and alignment are definitely improved.
It is possible to attend only one day of the workshop, but far preferable to do both. Day Two is an extension and deepening of Day One.
Day One: Active Pelvis I – open to everyone.
Learning outcomes: You will improve your range of movement, flexibility and understanding of your body, on the day itself. Feldenkrais is always a fabulous body treat. You will have exercises to be able to continue the process afterwards.
Day Two: Day for multi-disciplinary practitioners. CPD accredited from South African Society of Physiotherapists (pending). Will attract 7 CEUs. The day will involve more advanced exercises and manual techniques. Manuals and certificates provided.
Learning outcomes: You will learn unique Feldenkrais exercises applicable to your own body and to safely and effectively use with your patients. The exercises will stimulate your thinking about the pelvis, and enrich your movement vocabulary. The manual techniques are quite different to what you may already know, and can be applied right after the course.
